New methods of connecting
timber to timber and timber to other materials have been instrumental
in widening the range of applications for Timberbond's glulam. Glulam
can be connected at the joint locations using a variety of methods ranging
from traditional bolt based detailing and modern epoxy adhesives through
to intricate large scale finger jointed connections which act as moment
splice joints.

The variety of framing
connections are really only limited by the designer's imagination. They
can be discrete or a bold architectural statement which can add the finishing
touch to a building.
Structural connections
are vital to the success of long span structures and careful attention
to detail and consideration of construction techniques can result in significant
savings in labour and plant hire. In determining connection details the
following aspects should be considered:
- Standardisation
- Ease of assembly
- Ttolerances
- Suitability of
erection procedure
- Fire resistance
- Aesthetics.
Following are examples
and design tips for connections. Connections however are only limited
to the imagination of the designer and can provide dramatic architectural
statements.
